I'm not waving, I'm drowning.
The most difficult thing for some school leaders to do is to acknowledge their need for help yet doing so has multiple benefits.
When we ask for help we are showing a human quality that breaks open the stereotype of school leaders being 'them', impervious, invulnerable and pretty much unknowable too. It's near impossible to sustain a hostile stereotype when the person concerned shows their need for support.
Asking for support is a tacit acknowledgement of the value of the other person. They are needed and that expresses a respect for their capacity and strengths.
